REBUILDING THE HALL IN FORTALEZA, BRAZIL

In October 2011, torrential flooding knocked down the walls of the hall and a new one has had to be constructed.  Funds are URGENTLY required to complete the build.

The fellowship has an assembly in one of the poorest parts of Brazil – a ‘favela’ (slum) area in Fortaleza.  Up until last year, there was a 300 seater hall in the ‘slum’ area that was used as a meeting place for the 1300 saints fellowshipping in that area.  Meetings were run every day throughout the week simply to fit people in. The ‘slum’ area itself is not large but can be a very dangerous area. In addition, they run meetings throughout the week over at the other hall at Iricema Beach. But it is very expensive to hire.

In October 2011, torrential flooding knocked down the walls of the slums hall and a new one has had to be constructed.  As a result of the generous donations to the Mission Fund, funds have been raised not only to correctly do the engineering and start rebuilding a hall but also to purchase the neighbouring property so that they could extend the hall to seat nearly 600 people. In the meantime, these folk hold small house meetings, hold meetings over by the beach under lamplight, or get to a meeting at the overcrowded Iricema Beach hall when they can.

Funds are now needed urgently to finish construction of this hall.  Ps Esteves has already completed most of the walls and needs the funds to build the roof, put in toilets, do the floor, the electrics and plaster the walls. Once this expanded hall is completed in the fourth quarter of 2012 it should make it possible to relinquish the expensive rented hall at Iricema Beach. This will relieve the Mission Fund and local finances.
